NEW JURIEN BAY AIRPORT EAST WEST RUNWAY OFFICIALLY OPENED
The Shire of Dandaragan is pleased to announce the official completion of the new East West Runway at the Jurien Bay Airport, which was opened yesterday by Shire President, Cr Tony O'Gorman, Mr Andy Mudgway, General Manager Aviation Royal Flying Doctor Service, and Mr Simon Prins, Acting District Fire Coordinator, Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions.
This exciting new infrastructure is set to enhance aviation services in the region, providing improved access and increased capacity for both commercial, emergency services and recreational aviation. The East West Runway offers greater flexibility for aircraft operations, ensuring safer take-offs and landings in a variety of wind conditions. Importantly, the new runway will allow the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Aerial Water Bombing Fleet to fly in and out of Jurien Bay throughout the year.
Cr O'Gorman emphasised the importance of this new addition to the region, stating, "The new runway is a significant milestone for Jurien Bay and the rollout of our Airport Development Masterplan. It will support the growing needs of our aviation community, boost economic opportunities, secure emergency services capabilities and strengthen our connectivity with other regions. We are proud to deliver this project, which will benefit residents and visitors alike for years to come."
The completion of this $680k project was made possible through a combination of Shire funding and $500,000 from the State Government’s Tropical Cyclone Seroja Resilience Fund.
