Cervantes Recreation Precinct Working Group (Closed)

In August 2021, Shire of Dandaragan Council approved the release of the draft Sport and Recreation Plan to the public for comment. The draft Plan includes a detailed action plan that prioritises and guides the Shire’s resources to deliver the optimum sport and recreation outcomes in a planned approach.  A recommendation of the Plan is framed around the need to prepare masterplans for each recreation precinct over the coming years to respond to either increased demand or buildings reaching end of serviceable life.

With the community feedback period for the draft Plan now complete, the Shire of Dandaragan would like to call for expressions of interest for nomination to the Cervantes Recreation Precinct Working Group to develop a masterplan for the Cervantes Recreation Reserve.

To progress the Cervantes Recreation Precinct masterplan, the Shire note the benefit of including the community throughout the design development stage. Establishment of a project working group would provide insight from local users informed by a diverse range of views and opinions from a broad cross-section of the community. This would reduce the risk of any future built form design being inconsistent with community values and producing negative community feedback.

This level of community participation in the project will highlight the Shire’s commitment to meaningful engagement with the community on issues affecting the public, and on local issues that significantly impact on the community. Public participation and engagement is the foundation of good decision-making, and is mutually beneficial to the community and Council.

A Cervantes Recreation Precinct Masterplan will be a conceptual representation of how the recreation precinct could evolve and function, and provide a series of themes and cues to assist in guiding detailed planning and design decisions.

Due to the projects’ high level of local impact on the community, the aim of the Working Group will be to ensure that development of the detailed design of the Cervantes Recreation Precinct is representative of the community’s values, whilst aligning with the key objective of delivering a contemporary, flexible and inclusive recreation precinct that supports Cervantes sense of place and uniqueness, supports a move towards increased co-location and shared use between clubs, and will ensure that local content, values, and interpretation are incorporated into detailed designs.  The Cervantes Recreation Precinct Masterplan will focus on the locations of the Cervantes Community Recreation Centre, the Cervantes Country Club, and the many organisations which use these facilities.

If you are interested in being part of guiding the final masterplan development of the Cervantes Recreation Precinct, please email council@dandaragan.wa.gov.au your Nomination Form accompanied with the Terms of Reference or return to the Shire Administration Centre by 4pm Monday 22 November.

The Terms of Reference (TOR) will set out the operating guidelines for the Cervantes Recreation Precinct Working Group and include the purpose, structure and responsibilities of the group’s members.

Nominations will be considered by the CEO and Councillor Chair of the Working Group.

Successful nominated Working Group members may be required to attend a meeting as early as 24 November - this will be confirmed upon notification of successful CRPWG members.
