Public Comment Invited on Draft Economic Development Grant Policy (Closed)

The Shire of Dandaragan invites comment on a Draft Economic Development Grant Policy. This Policy provides direction and guidance on the administration of a new grant aimed to support projects that can demonstrate that they will bring economic benefits to local businesses and communities within the Shire of Dandaragan. 

Since 2020/2021 Council has supported a Major Event Grant as a means of attracting major events to be hosted within the Shire, with the aim of creating economic benefits through increased visitation, overnight stays and expenditure within the Shire.  It is proposed that the Major Event Grant will be incorporated into the proposed new Economic Development Grant.

Based on feedback from the community and Council, the proposed Economic Development Grant:

• expands the scope of opportunities that can be supported from major events only, to a wider range of projects and initiatives (including major events) that promote economic development and economic benefits within the Shire.

• increases the amount of grant funding that can be awarded to an applicant from a maximum of $10,000 to the full amount of the available grant, currently $30,000 per annum.

• encourages collaborative projects and partnerships to enhance the overall social and economic value that can be achieved by a project.

• requires co-contribution, with successful applicants to contribute at least 50% of the total cost of the project.

• encourages applications that align with the Shires economic and tourism development priority areas, as outlined in the Shire of Dandaragan’s Envision 2029 Strategic Community Plan.

If supported, this policy will be adopted at the next meeting of Council, for immediate implementation.
